No, you don’t need to have a Christie’s account to be able to place an order. However, if you are new to Christie’s, we may require you to provide further information, including a copy of your current government-issued ID, after the order is placed.

How does client verification take place?

We may require you to provide the following types of information and/or documentation: confirmation of registered address (e.g. current utility bill, bank statement or recent postal envelope, if the registered address is not listed on company documents); and valid, government-issued photo ID for account owner (driver’s license, passport or national identity card).

What is CITES and how does it impact the watch I intend to purchase?

CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is an international agreement that restricts the import and export of certain specimens of wild animals and plants, and aims to protect the survival of the species it covers. Visit the CITES website for more information.

Exotic skins such as alligator, crocodile, or ostrich are often used for luxury watch straps, and mother-of-pearl is often used to add lustre to watch dials. These materials are restricted by CITES, which means we’re unable to ship them across customs borders, and products with such restricted materials will be marked with the symbol ~ and/or ψ in the Sale Particulars.

How are watches shipped, and are they insured in transit?

Christie’s will ship your purchase via either courier or airfreight service. The shipment will be covered under Christie’s liability of loss and damage subject to Christie’s terms and conditions.

What types of payment do you accept?

We accept payment made with Visa, Mastercard, American Express and China UnionPay (CUP).

How is sales tax handled?

For products that Christie’s ships to or within the United States, Christie’s will collect sales tax at the time of purchase as required by applicable laws.

Will I need to pay duties and taxes?

(i) The successful buyer is responsible for any applicable taxes including any sales or use tax, VAT, GST, import taxes or equivalent tax wherever such taxes may arise on the Buy-Now Price and/or any other charges related to the product.

(ii) You are responsible for ascertaining and remitting all taxes due on your purchase, unless we are legally required to collect such taxes at the time of sale.

(iii) For products that Christie’s ships to or within the United States, Christie’s will collect sales tax at the time of purchase as required by applicable laws. Trade buyers that present a valid resale certificate can secure a sales tax exemption. Where Christie’s does not charge sales tax, you are responsible for paying all applicable use tax on the Buy-Now Price.

All watches in the Christie’s shop are priced in US dollars.

Returns and exchanges

Do you have a refund or return policy?

After you have completed the purchase and made payment for an item, the item cannot be returned to the Christie’s Shop. If you have concerns regarding the authenticity of the item, and successfully raise a claim with us under the authenticity warranty, we will refund you the Buy-Now Price you paid for the watch. Please refer to our Conditions of Sale for more information.

Warranty and repairs

What is covered within the Christie’s Shop warranty?

All the watches offered are covered by our 2-year authenticity warranty, which covers information shown in UPPERCASE type in the heading of the product description, i.e. the brand. Please note that we do not give a warranty that any individual component part of any watch or clock is authentic or original, or that any watch or clock is in good working order. Please refer to our Conditions of Sale for more information.

My watch is sold. How and when will I receive payment? 

Upon receiving full and clear payment from the buyer, we’ll send you the proceeds of sale, less any applicable sale expenses. The Payment will be remitted to you within 5 working days, following the payment instructions as confirmed with you.
